Model Evaluation
My daughter brought this sheet home from school as part of a project checklist: Model Evaluation
It includes a handy checklist with which to evaluate a model that includes many useful points including:
• Model is recognizable
• Model is accurate and has the correct dimensions
• Model is made of ordinary material that are inexpensive and safe to use
• Model is sturdy, durable and well constructed

I wish I had been given this information in high school.
Cicerone Warder
There are so many things to do on a nice day, but one of my favorites is to hang around inside with a camera and great model taking photos until the light is really sweet outside, and then go outside to some really beautiful spot with the same great model and take more photos. Of course, my absolute favorite thing to do on a nice day is hang around with Liz in a sunny park with a hot coffee. If I can combine both – shooting inside with a great model until the light is sweet then going outside to some beautiful place to shoot more with the same great model AND hang out with Liz (while she is working her hair/mu/wardrobe magic) then I start getting philosophical: Can life possibly get any better?

A morning with Sasha
I love a big production. Sometimes there’s more fun in the making then there is in the taking. Watching all the little pieces coming together … it’s like watching the cake being iced.
Although, sometimes I just like to grab a camera stuff and idea in it and start shooting. Way back when, I grabbed a friend, some white clothes and went hunting for chairs in alleys to see what would happen. I put some great shots in my book after those sessions. I wanted to get out there again and shoot something unscripted and spontaneous where I was in the scene but behind the camera. My friend Sasha works hard, and late and so gets a late start – late enough for me to gather up my camera bag and get to her bedroom door before she’s starts her day rolling.

A New Face
This story was shot for Vancouver Fashion Ezine and was about a new face on the roster at Liz Bell Agency – Carolyn G.
I did not feel constrained to shoot thematically in the way I normally to for a fashion story because this was a story about a person not a collection or a visual theme. In fact, I tried to shoot different looks photographically to give Carolyn the opportunity to show her talent in different shooting conditions. After all was said and done though, quite a few of the shots didn’t make the cut. Yea for blogs! Here’s the whole thing.
What not
Bad me for not posting in awhile.
The inspiration for this story came from a shoot I did nearly ten years ago. The theme then was Christmas baubles and they were all gold coloured as was the set and the model. It was not nearly as elaborate as this shoot was.
Shooting large format again for this shoot definitely had it’s challenges. I wanted to shoot with a very narrow plane of focus to help add to the dream quality of the shots and that made it very difficult to keep the essential portions of the images in focus. Thanks to a patient model (Sophia from Liz Bell) for holding a pose. Kudos also to Liz and Dana (Judy Inc.) for spending many hours putting the set together. It was the culmination of many months of prop gathering.
You can pick up the print edition on the newsstands in May. To see the whole shoot click here.
