Carolyn Cowgirl
It’s true. Photography is a serious matter. You can tell by the look on the faces of most people in photos. There’s no joking around on set, you show up with a job to do. Time is usually tight, egos are big and fragile. Things go wrong, equipment breaks, people breakdown, bugs bite, wind blows and then it rains. Hard.
Models, photographers, stylists, crew members … we have tough jobs, but we endure. Creative expression is worth that. We don’t mind suffering for our art. This short movie clip – a behind the scenes look at my last shoot with Carolyn – offers up a glimpse of the hard work and dedication that a truly talented model brings to the set.
Apparently I have a reputation to maintain …
So, the shoot was wonderful, of course, and Carolyn is gettin’ outta this two bit town and heading east to New York. But not to fear, there will be more seriousness soon. Click here to see the photos.

Boy meets Girl
Girl gets on the bus and asks boy to move his school papers so she can sit. Boy obliges. Conversation ensues. He’s working on his PhD, she is working on her Master’s. Girl gets off bus at her stop. On impulse, boy jumps off bus, abandoning his school papers, obtains girl’s phone number, leaps back on bus to be reunited with his school papers. Boy calls girl the next day.
Years later I photograph them. It’s just the way I work.

Whimsy
Makeup in the car.
5 minutes to scout on the ferry, 30 minutes to shoot two outfits. No Polaroid or digital testing … just a light meter and some sheet film. I love the thrill of shooting so old school.
I love Carlie’s clothes, and she was sweet enough to loan me two outfits on a whim for this. I also love shooting Cecilia (1,2,3) – if you follow this blog that should be fairly obvious by now. And, after 12 years of working together, Liz still amazes me with her styling and on-the-spot hair and makeup genius. Liz, Carlie, Cecilia … thanks!
